On Wednesday 14 August one day prior to Independence Day , An Army Officer Captian Deepak martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Akar Forest Area of Baggar , Doda. The captain suffered gunshots during encounter and later succumbed to injuries .
The Armed Forces made contact with terrorists yesterday night and encounter is still going on. Four terrorists are said to be trapped by forces. A civilian also got injured and is shifted to nearby hospital.
The security forces managed to recover a US made M4 assault rifle and three bags containing equipments & logistics from encounter site .
This terror attack in the Jammu region comes a day before Country’s Independence Day celebrations and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chairs a meeting – attended by senior figures, including Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval – to review the security situation.
There has been a rapid increase in terror activities in the Jammu region – particularly in the southern reaches of the Pir Panjal range, which contains many thick forests and steep mountains that provide cover for terrorists – in recent months, raising fears about the revival of militancy in the region.
